So I'm leaving for Ann Arbor tomorrow. Here's a poem to commemorate the occasion:
A Study of Reading Habits
When getting my nose in a book Cured most things short of school, It was worth ruining my eyes To know I could still keep cool, And deal out the old right hook To dirty dogs twice my size.
Later, with inch-thick specs, Evil was just my lark: Me and my cloak and fangs Had ripping times in the dark. The women I clubbed with sex! I broke them up like meringues.
Don't read much now: the dude Who lets the girl down before The hero arrives, the chap Who's yellow, and keeps the store, Seem far too familiar. Get stewed: Books are a load of crap.

| | Not Manowar, I can tell you! | ] | I find myself with a moment to spare as I finish my next-to-last term paper. In honor of this, I'd like to write about why it is I just can't seem to get interested in Manowar's music.
I'd like to say that it was because of the high-pitched, operatic vocals, but it isn't. It isn't because they write songs with such beautiful lyrics as "woman, be my slave" behind some weird imitation of Mithotyn's "Gathered Round the Oaken Table" song.
No, it's because of the fans. I'll show you why, and you can click the link to see the full interview he gave to the Manowar fanclub in 2005 when he was "Warrior of the Week."
"My servants call me Sir Lucious Cannovorus. I am 22 years young. I hail from the Embattled City of Angels. My email address is buztinjustin@hotmail.com."
Question 8. In a closing note, would you like to say something to the band personally ? "Hail to you gods of metal, for you have strengthened my empire and my soul in dominating the posers of the world. Return to Los Angeles and you will be given a Lord's welcome with gifts of fine drink and women."
****
And he's just one of hundreds archived there, with his ignorance hanging out for all to see. Note that he played "Bridge of Death" for his thematic wedding song. His wife must have been thrilled. |

| [ | Now playing in the grocery aisle: |
| | chappelle's show's opening credits are on | ] | here's the great thing about me -
i can drill, sandpaper, plaster, install hardware, and generally use all the powertools i want for 3 weeks without incident...
...but ask me to slip some ultra lightweight curtains on a curtain rod that's on the ground and expect to spend some time in the emergency room.
so it turns out i was standing on one of the curtains, and as sheer and slippery as they were on the hardwood floors, i started sliding backwards. so i moved my other foot to try and catch myself, only i managed to put it on the other sheer, slippery curtain. then i was really falling, so i put my hand out to catch myself against the wall, only to hear a SNAP vaguely reminiscent of a chicken wing being broken in two. it was just about then that my finger went completely numb...
...for about 30 seconds. it dissipated rapidly under a funny burning sensation and the inevitable ouch that comes from doing something so incredibly stupid.
to be honest though, i didnt go to the emergency room. it seemed to be moving OK after a few minutes despite the hurting, so i just took 2 aleve and went to work. regardless, the little finger on my right hand is officially out of commission for 6-8 weeks while it heals, replete with a regimen of heat and ice and so-called "buddy taping", which involves me using this weird, scrunchy, adhesiveless "tape" to adhere it to my ring finger, thus protecting it from further trauma. fortunately, i am a dairy hog and have strong bones - it isn't broken, as evidenced by the fact that its still just as long as my other pinky and not unusually crooked; 's still swollen, though. also, there's movement (though it no longer closes all the way) and in fact i have been encouraged to move it as much as possible to avoid any permanent stiffness in the joints.
but now its all cool, look:

the picture is fuzzy - its hard for lefties to take pictures with their right hand, it seems. or maybe its just me! anyway, the other side of it is that purple color all the way up to the midpoint of my fingertip and its got this weird pink line on the side that makes it look like ive been drawing on my skin with a highlighter. i have no idea what its from - a torn vein or something, i guess.
still, i finished putting up the curtains and, now that its been a couple of days, it really does look worse than it feels. it only hurts in certain positions now, and it really hasnt interfered with anything so far.
awesome! |

You are more introverted than extroverted. You are more intuitive than observant, you are more thinking based than feeling based, and you prefer to have a plan rather than leaving things to chance. Your type is best described by the word "mastermind", which belongs to the larger group called rationals. Only 1% of the population shares your type. You are very strong willed and self-confident. You can hardly rest until you have things settled. You will only adopt ideas and rules if they make sense. You are a great brainstormer and often come up with creative solutions to difficult problems. You are open to new concepts, and often actively seek them out. As a romantic partner, you can be both fascinating yet demanding. You are not apt to express your emotions, leaving your partner wondering where they are with you. You strongly dislike repeating yourself or listening to the disorganized process of sorting through emotional conflicts. You see your own commitments as self-evident and don't see why you need to repeat something already expressed. You have the most difficulty in admitting your vulnerabilities. You feel the most appreciated when your partner admires the quality of your innovations and when they listen respectfully to your ideas and advice. You need plenty of quiet to explore your interests to the depth that gives you satisfaction. Your group summary: rationals (NT) Your type summary: INTJ

Oh, also? I got a 165 on the LSAT. Should be good enough to get into a decent law school and perhaps secure some scholarship funds. =)
In the near future: I've been remodeling the living room using venetian plaster. It's a really neat process, and I've been taking pictures. I'll put them up when I'm finished with a little description of how I did it. Other remodeling fiends may find it valuable and/or interesting. The rest of you can just stop reading my journal!

Ok, so the guy who hasn't been showing up for work or calling in? Apparently he came in last wednesday and quit, citing "terrible back pains" as the culprit. He told our boss that he'd been in the hospital for days due to them and that he was moving back to North Carolina as a result, presumably to be taken care of by family members. I told my friend that even though I ought to care, I was just happy that he didn't work here anymore. Fast forward to this monday, when lo and behold I receive an email in my mailbox from a guy I've known for over a year - we've had classes together each and every semester since I returned to ASU, plus we've been working on the Sandhills Literary Magazine publication together as co-editors since last year. The email is simply this:
Subject: Hey
Long time no talk
How are things? Thanks for being around for Sladky this summer, I have been out of town most of the time. When are we to get the final product?
also- I don't know what lame ass story Thad Jackson told you guys, but the reason that guy is leaving is because he is going to jail for stealing my car and selling it for crack. Yup, you heard me, HE STOLE MY CAR AND SOLD IT FOR CRACK. Thought you might find that interesting. Anyway- I'll see you around, especially now that I can't leave town;)
Ha!

| | the hum of electronics | ] | So thad didn't show up for work today, and he didn't call. Eddie was out because he got a subpoena to appear in court as a witness to someone's car getting banged up, so Janice had to do his stuff. That meant it was me and Adam in the hiz-ouse, and frankly that wasn't enough to cover both helpdesks plus the imaging work.
Now, I don't mind when people aren't able to come in. Everyone's got days when they can't make it, but to not even call? that's pretty crappy. It's not like anyone's a) going to say No You Cant! Come Into Work Or Die!!! or b)not actually notice that you aren't there. If we'd known that he wasn't coming, Janice would have rearranged things so we would have had enough people covering the phones and such. As it was, she thought he was there the whole time so she just stayed out on calls.
What's so hard about picking up a phone? And if he doesn't have one, what's so hard about getting one or borrowing someone else's? I'm sure he could have found a way if he'd been so inclined. It takes two seconds to say you can't make it, anyway.
I just don't get it. People, take a note: if you're not going to make it to work, let someone know ahead of time. 'S called courtesy. |

Parn Akuma, here: new journal. I had to stop writing in the rotfront journal, because I'd given it the "birthdate" of the collective (e.g., under 13 years of age), and Live Journal had a heart attack. It refused to let me post until I gave them a credit card to prove my age. Forget that!
So I've made a new one - and it's going to be just as puerile, so: take that, Live Journal!

Aw, jeah.
